Short Bio
Shane began drawing in 2016 as a way of creating meaningful gifts for his twin daughters. His current medium of choice is chalk pastels on Stonehenge Black paper and he is enjoying the contrast of light and shade as seen in his recent works.
Shane grew up on a property in Lithgow and has always had a love for the land. This is reflected in his more recent works which are based on skulls of cows and rams where he explores the beauty of objects not usually considered beautiful.
Shane is naturally inclined toward chiaroscuro techniques and his work is now being informed by Baroque masters, Renbrandt and Caravaggio. On a contemporary level he enjoys viewing the works of South Australian artist Robert Hannaford, American artist Georgia O’Keefe and Tim Storrier who also have a leaning toward subject matter from regional areas.
Shane’s draughtsmanship is at a high level and is being driven by his desire for excellence, a sharp eye for detail and precision as he continues to hone his drawing skills. Each drawing he produces advances his ability to draw, producing examples of landscape, portrait and genre.
